Mesa firefighter saves an unlikely creature during routine cleaning of fire engine

MESA — Not everyone rescued by first responders are human.

You've seen men and women in uniform rescue rogue llamas, emus taking a stroll through the neighborhood,and dogs running loose on the freeways.

But one Mesa firefighter saved one of the smallest creatures around: a hummingbird.

A video posted on Mesa Fire and Medical's Facebook page explains that during a routine inspection of a fire truck, a firefighter noticed the small bird on the ground, tangled up in cobwebs.

The firefighter cleaned up the little bird, and once the cobwebs were removed, the hummingbird flew away.

"Firefighters save more than people," the video ends. "They save the smallest of creatures, too!"
