CHANDLER, AZ — Surveillance video shows a man make off with the entire cash register from Burst of Butterflies, a mom and pop shop in downtown Chandler.

The break-in happened just after 3 a.m. the day after Christmas, according to general manager Lucas Tisland.

“It doesn’t make sense to me," Tisland said. "It doesn’t seem like we would be the best target...How much are you really going to make off a family owned business? Why take the risk for such a small amount?"

Tisland said the register one man's seen running off with likely had no more than $250 inside, but the register itself is worth about $300 dollars.

Tisland knows the man wasn't alone. Video from outside the shop shows another man entering the courtyard behind their store, and two other men waiting in the alley.

"It was just awful just watching these guys as they were in my company that I have spent four years just working through every single day," Tisland said. "It takes a lot of gall.”

The store's not only equipped with surveillance cameras, but an alarm system that Tisland says went off one minute after the accused crooks opened the back door.

He says Chandler police responded, but told the shop owner it was likely a false alarm.

Tisland hoping flyers posted across downtown Chandler with photos of the men caught in the act could help identify, and hopefully, catch them.

“That’s really all we have to go off of," he added. "They were covered, wearing bandanas, and heavy clothing, so there’s no real kind of identifiers other than the clothes they were wearing.”
