Police have taken into custody a man who they believe assaulted a Valley veteran with his car and then fled from the scene.
According to the Chandler Police Department, Cody Gibson was being sought in connection to a hit-and-run of Steven Richardson, 31, who suffered severe head injuries on Thursday when he stepped in to stop the man who was dragging a woman by her hair. Gibson is believed to have ran over the veteran with an SUV at a Fry's grocery store parking lot and then left the area.
Police were looking for Gibson and on Wednesday the man was taken into the custody of the Gila River Police Department. The man has an extradition hearing scheduled for Thursday and is expected to be in the custody of the Chandler Police Department on Thursday afternoon.
