Three people have been arrested in connection with the robbery and shooting of a man who was selling food from a cart in Phoenix.

According to police, around 2 p.m. on Monday, three people were driving near 38th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard looking for a victim to rob when they located a food vendor.

Steven Wayne Mitchell, Shaniqua Gilliams and Shreika Gilliams devised a plan for the robbery, police said.

Mitchell asked the victim to make change in order to see whether he had cash on him, officials said. Mitchell then demanded money from the man at gunpoint, but the man ran away and that's when Mitchell fired several shots, police said.

Mitchell then ran back to the getaway car and fled with the two women, police said.

When confronted by police, the trio admitted their involvement and they were booked into jail, officials said.
