Phoenix police say a man was hit and seriously injured while crossing the street mid-block in west Phoenix overnight.

The pedestrian was reportedly crossing the street when he was struck by a car headed westbound on Thomas Road near 35th Avenue. Police originally reported that the victim died, but sent a correction later Friday morning saying the man suffered life-threatening injuries.

Thomas Road was shut down between 35th and 37th avenues for several hours.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
