A local 10-year-old boy is credited with saving his two younger sisters from a house fire set by their father.

According to court documents, 32-year-old Michael Trejo set fire to a "mother-in-law" style house where his three children were sleeping.

Police say on Saturday morning around 6 a.m., Trejo woke his three children telling them he was going to set the kitchen on fire. They pleaded with him not to do it as Trejo not only lit the fire, but stoked it by continuously throwing wood cabinets on the flames as the children tried to escape.

It was his son Angeleno who got his 8- and 3-year-old sisters out of the home through a bedroom window just a few feet away from the flames.

Court records show that Trejo has prior arrests for assault and criminal damage and had an order or protection filed against him by the children's mother.

He now faces arson and endangerment charges.
