PHOENIX — A 28-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly firing shots into several homes near 51st Avenue and Greenway Road, according to Phoenix police.

Police say they received a call for shots fired in the area around 2:25 a.m. and were sent to a home where a bullet had gone through the back door.

Once officers arrived though, they found a much more chaotic scene. Four homes had all been struck by gunfire from a .44 Magnum revolver.

Surveillance video from one of the homeowners showed Roland Kausin running down the street firing randomly at homes.

"The muzzle flash lights his face up," said the homeowner who recorded Kausin, but asked not to be identified."He's just randomly, boom boom boom!"

After shooting into three homes, police say Kausin jumped a fence into another home's backyard, then shot out the home's rear glass door.

"I heard a bang in the kitchen at that sounded like a pan falling on the ground. So I started to walk out of the room and the burglar alarm went off," said Jeannine Doepke, who was upstairs sleeping.

Doepke's husband was already outside around 2:30 a.m., preparing to go on a fishing trip. He heard the gunshots, then got a phone call from his wife to quickly come inside. He grabbed his gun and told ABC15 he was ready to shoot a potential intruder.

Fortunately for everyone involved, Kausin had run to the couple's basement. "If he had come upstairs. I don’t know, it would’ve been very bad," said Doepke. "I just had never thought that could happen to me."

Kausin never left the family's basement. In fact, the couple said he was quiet the entire time. Only after police arrived and checked the downstairs did they find the suspect, who had taken off his pants according to the family.

"He had taken them off at some point, and he had a nice cell phone. If he’s homeless, how did he have such a nice cell phone?"

According to the Phoenix police report, Kausin is "homeless" and "mentally disturbed" but they marked that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Kausin was arrested and booked on four counts of discharging a firearm at a residence, one count of burglary, criminal damage, and firing a gun within city limits.

Police are still looking into how Kausin may have gotten the revolver
