One of three men accused in a 2012 murder-for-hire plot has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.

Javier Aguayo was also sentenced to an additional 32.5 years in the assassination plot.

This case is the result of three separate, but related incidents in which the then-19-year-old "put multiple victims in fear for their lives" from 2011 to 2012.

Investigators say Aguayo attempted to murder a woman who was supposed to testify against him in an aggravated assault case from several months earlier.

Two other men were also jailed in connection with the plot.

"The lengths the defendant went to in order to avoid responsibility for his actions are reprehensible," said County Attorney Bill Montgomery. "His willingness to repeatedly try to take a human life indicates he is clearly a danger to the community, and therefore the significant term of incarceration is warranted."
