A teenager is facing multiple felonies after allegedly almost shutting down the 911 emergency system in Maricopa County.

A Grand Jury has indicted 18-year-old Meetkumar Desai of carrying out a cyberattack on 911 emergency call systems.

According to the State Attorney General’s Office, Desai is facing four felony counts of computer tampering.

Officers arrested Desai after multiple agencies received more than 300 911 hang up calls between October 24 and 26.Experts say the surge of calls combined with the volume made by the application could have shut down 911 service across the county.

The hang up calls were reported from MCSO, Surprise Police Department, Chandler Police Department and Avondale Police Department emergency call centers.
