Arizona House speaker David Gowan has repaid the state more than $12,000 for reimbursements he claimed for trips he took in state vehicles and for days he said he worked but did not.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports that after the newspaper published an analysis of the increase of state fleet vehicle use by top Republican lawmakers Gowan asked House staff to look at his claims for discrepancies.

Gowan wrote the state a personal check on Jan. 12, four days after the initial article

House Republican caucus spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham says about $9,600 was owed because of reimbursements claimed for miles driven in a state vehicle, not personal, $727 was repaid for using a state vehicle for personal business and $1,655 was for days he had claimed to work but did not.
