A man serving a 50-year sentence for aggravated assault was found to have escaped for a week, according to reports.

Court documents reveal that 68-year-old Michael John Graham walked out the front door of an AA meeting he was attending and cut off his ankle monitoring device.

Graham was found "guilty but insane" on four aggravated assault charges from 2005. He was confined to the Arizona State Hospital where he was nine years into a 50 year sentence.

The cut-off ankle device was found in some landscaping next to a construction truck.

Graham was found seven days after the escape and transported to the hospital for dehydration.
