A man claiming he had C4 explosives hidden in his backpack threatened to blow up a Bed, Bath and Beyond store near 48th street and Shea earlier this month.

Court documents reveal that 34-year-old Joseph Dee Koetting was inside the store on Wednesday, Dec. 9th and was taking items from the shelves and throwing them across the store.

He also cut himself and was bleeding on products, the shelves and the carpet, documents say.

When confronted by store employees he claimed to have C4 explosives in his backpack and told them he was going to detonate them in 90 seconds.

Police negotiated with him and he surrendered. Luckily no one was injured.

Police say Koetting was having a “personal crisis."

He was arrested for charges, including hoax, threatening, misconduct by simulating an explosive device and trespassing.
