Phoenix police officers took a man into custody after five armed robberies occurred in a matter of hours overnight.

Officers responded to the first armed robbery of a convenience store after 9 p.m. Thursday in the area of Tatum and Bell Road. In this case, the suspect was armed with a handgun, demanded money and took off in a white compact car.

Around 10:30 p.m., officers received another call of an armed robbery near 40th Street and Union Hills Drive with the incident matching the description of the first call. Three more armed robberies occurred before 1 a.m. Friday near 32nd Street and Cactus Road, 27th Avenue and Deer Valley, and Tatum and Thunderbird.

Just after 1 a.m., police saw a white compact car in a convenience store parking lot near the I-17 and Thunderbird Road.

The suspect, only identified as a 20-year-old man, was stopped and, with enough gathered evidence, arrested for the series of armed robberies.

A woman was also detained during the incident, but was released after she was found to not have any knowledge of the suspect's actions.
