PHOENIX — More than 1,000 people were without power Sunday night after a car crashed into a power pole near 43rd Avenue and Bell Road.

The power lines came down on top of the car forcing rescue crews to keep their distance until it was de-energized by APS, said Phoenix Fire Captain Jake Van Hook.

Firefighters were able to help a man inside the car get out safely.

There is no word on what caused the crash or the condition of the man inside.
