Authorities have cleared the scene after responding for a suspicious package left at the headquarters of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Phoenix police said officers were called to check out an unattended suitcase. An explosive ordinance disposal team investigated the package left near the DPS building at 21st Avenue and Encanto Boulevard.

The package's location led officers to take precautions to safely inspect the item and verify its contents, according to Sgt. Vince Lewis.

Just before 5:30 p.m., police said the suitcase was found to be empty.

Temporary traffic restrictions put in place as part of the investigation were expected to be taken down shortly, police said.
