The Grand Canyon State's best and brightest spellers have one more day before taking the stage at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, but the competition has already started.

Penda Ba, an 8th grader from Gilbert, and Kelly Haven, a 6th grader from Fort Defiance, are representing Arizona this year.

They both got to work on Tuesday morning, taking a written spelling and vocabulary test.

Tomorrow, they'll both have the chance to spell two words on stage.

If they get both of those correct, the judges will take a look at their scores on the written test. The top combined scorers will make it to Thursday's Finals which will be televised on ESPN and ESPN2.
