As Prescott officials work to design a memorial for the 19 firefighters killed during a June 2013 wildfire the image of a tree the firefighters save is a common suggestion.

The Daily Courier reports that the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial Partnership is sifting through suggestions received during the initial public-comment period and seeing some common themes.

Partnership president Bruce Martinez says most prominent is the alligator juniper the Granite Mountain Hotshots saved days before they died in Yarnell Hill wildfire. Many other suggestions call for the Hotshots to be depicted posing in pyramid formation.

The Prescott memorial is still in early planning stages. The suggestions received in the comment period will now be included in a request for proposals that will be sent to artists in the coming months.
