Prescott to face longer response times to fires

Budget cuts recently approved by the Prescott City Council are expected to result in longer response times by the city's fire department.

The Daily Courier reports that the response times are expected to increase to more than 10 minutes.

The response time for structure fires was about 8 minutes and 24 seconds in 2013 and has risen since then.

City officials announced that about $1.2 million would need to be cut from the budget when voters rejected a sales tax proposal in August.

Officials approved cuts in November that included indefinitely freezing three firefighter positions and increase fire-code permit fees to raise about $86,000 more in revenue.
