Yavapai County Sheriff's Officials are investigating after a deputy-involved shooting on Saturday night.

A 46-year-old woman called officials around 11 p.m. that she was being followed in her vehicle by her estranged husband, 58-year-old William Nelson. When she slowed to turn, he fired a shot at her vehicle, breaking her window, and kept driving.

Officials located Nelson's vehicle heading toward Camp Verde and initiated a traffic stop. Nelson exited the car armed with a handgun and a deputy fired a shot toward him.

YCSO says he was shot in the upper leg and was given first aid at the scene. He is in the hospital awaiting surgery and is expected to survive.

The victim said Nelson had threatened suicide earlier on Saturday.

The incident is still under investigation.
