Northern Arizona University has unveiled a school focused on computing that consolidates related programs from other departments.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that the School of Informatics, Computing and Cyber Systems features a new doctorate in informatics and computing and will include several existing programs in the field. It is part of the College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences.

NAU President Rita Cheng says the school grew out of a goal she had when she first arrived at the university two years ago. She says the new doctoral program was already in the works, but consolidating the existing programs draws more attention to NAU's focus on computer science.

Cheng says improving the university's reputation in the field will attract more students and improve graduates' job prospects.
