A Navy SEAL trainee died last week after passing out during a training exercise at Naval Base Coronado, according to a published report.
The Virginian-Pilot and NBC News reported that Seaman James Derek Lovelace died May 6 after passing out in a military training pool.
The newspaper said: "The Navy hadn't announced the training death, which occurred Friday, until after officials were contacted Tuesday by reporters for NBC News and The Pilot. A Navy spokesperson said the death is under investigation."
Lovelace, 21, joined the Navy six months earlier, the newspaper reported, citing Navy officials.
