Arizona Representative Greg Stanton announced Monday that he is introducing a bill to the U.S. House of Representatives that would require uniformed U.S. Capitol Police to wear body worn cameras.

The announcement comes in response to last week's riots at the U.S. Capitol, in which two Capitol police officers died in connection to the incident.

According to a statement from Rep. Stanton's office, due to having no body camera footage, the investigation into the riots will rely heavily on cell phone and surveillance footage.

“Last week’s armed insurrection against our government and breach of the United States Capitol building stunned the world, and we have a lot to learn about what went wrong. But I’m certain that the investigation—and the process to hold those responsible to account—would be much more thorough if aided by footage from body cameras," said Rep. Stanton in a statement.

Rep. Stanton is expected to introduce the bill later this week.
