Parents enroll their kids in swim classes all the time, but the chances of the parent actually knowing how to swim themselves are not too good.
A little more than half of all American adults can perform the five core swimming skills.
At the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center, classes are specifically designed to make adults feel more comfortable in the water.
"As the adults, there's a lot more fear that's built up," says Mary Wood Mansee, who has instructed swim classes for about 30 years. "With the babies, it's just a fear with the year or two that they've been alive."
On Saturday the swim center is holding a free event so adults can meet some of the swim instructors and the see the center.
