A woman fought to keep her car from a thief even after getting stabbed multiple times in a Phoenix parking lot.

Police say on May 24 a woman was confronted in the Walmart parking lot near 24th Street and Baseline Road.

The man, later identified as 21-year-old Gabriel Coronado, demanded the car keys from the victim. The victim fought off Coronado and during the fight, he reportedly stabbed the woman six times in the neck, arms and torso.

The victim ran away from Coronado but dropped her keys. Police say Coronado grabbed the keys and tried to enter the car. The victim returned and kicked Coronado, causing him to drop the keys.

Police say when Walmart workers ran to the woman to assist her, Coronado ran away. One witness followed Coronado until police found him, running along a nearby canal.

Coronado has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
