A driver who fled the scene of a vehicle assault at Tempe Marketplace has been charged.

Tempe Police report that the incident occurred in the early morning hours of September 25 at the shopping center near Rio Salado Parkway and McClintock Drive.

Police tell ABC15 that 23-year-old Brycen David Gabaldon reportedly saw his ex-girlfriend leaving work with a male coworker. The co-worker was going to follow the woman home for her safety when, police say, his vehicle was rammed by Gabaldon’s BMW SUV traveling around 80 miles per hour.

The male victim's car was pushed about 30 feet before hitting a curb and flipping on its side up against a tree. He was taken to the hospital with a broken leg, a bruised lung and other injuries, according to police.

Gabaldon was seen by officers at the scene, before running away. In the recent past, Gabaldon reportedly threatened to commit suicide and to “take her with him.”

Police are still searching for Gabaldon, who they say, has access to a "substantial amount of money."

He has been charged with aggravated assault.
