GILBERT, AZ — Police say a woman used a fake name when opening a gym membership so she could steal purses belonging to fellow patrons.

Gilbert officers arrested 35-year-old Haydee Ramirez on May 30 for multiple counts of burglary and credit card theft.

Police say on April 21 Ramirez used a fake name to establish membership at Pure Barre Fitness near Val Vista Drive and Williams Field Road.

She allegedly left early from an exercise class, going to the main lobby where members kept their belongings. There, she reportedly stole several items, including a Kate Spade purse and a Bottega Veneta wallet.

Officers investigating the thefts said the pattern matched a previous robbery that had identified Martinez as a suspect. The gym manager was shown a photo of Martinez and confirmed she was the woman who started the false membership.

Shortly after the thefts, Ramirez made several credit card purchases in Gilbert, Mesa, and Phoenix, totaling over $2,000. In total, police say the value of the property taken and charged was nearly $4,500.

Ramirez is currently on probation on a shoplifting conviction from 2018 and is being held without bond on her current charges.
