PHOENIX — An Uber driver was sexually assaulted while driving in North Phoenix.

Phoenix police report that on early Sunday morning, a female Uber driver picked up two men for a ride. After dropping off the first man, the second rider, Eduardo Lopez, 27, moved to the front passenger seat.

While the woman was driving, police say, Lopez grabbed the woman's hand and started rubbing his groin area. The woman told Lopez she needed her hand to drive, and he let it go. He later allegedly exposed himself and grabbed her hand again, and had her touch him.

The woman tried to pull her hand away but feared what else Lopez might do. Police say this continued until she dropped him off at the Comfort Inn Suites near I-17 and Peoria Avenue.

Police contacted Lopez in the hotel lobby. After initially denying any wrongdoing, Lopez later reportedly admitted to his actions, saying, "He was ashamed of what he did and knew people go to jail for this stuff."

Lopez, who is from southern Colorado, was arrested for sexual assault.
