A Mesa man is accused of killing his neighbor's dog after the animal attacked the suspect's own dog.

Mesa police report that on Sunday afternoon they responded to a home near Recker and Brown roads. A man there admitted to entering his neighbor's home and killing his dog.

Andrew Jackson Evans reportedly stated that he entered his neighbor's home armed with 9mm handgun and shot the pit bull twice in the head, while it was caged.

The 63-year-old then allegedly took the dog and the cage and buried them in the desert.

Evans reportedly said this was done in retaliation for the animal attacking his smaller dog, causing severe injuries.

Police say Evans told them, "what he did was worth it."

Evans was arrested for burglary, disorderly conduct, and killing an animal without the owner's consent.
