PHOENIX — A 27-year-old man is facing second-degree murder charges after he used a kitchen knife and garden shears to stab and kill his twin brother Friday night.

Officers say Christian Piedra stabbed his brother, Bryan, after the two got into a dispute at their apartment near 15th and Peoria avenues.

Christian called 911, saying his brother cut himself with a broken mirror. When paramedics came to the home, Christian refused to let them into the apartment. Police say paramedics forced their way in after reportedly seeing the victim lying on the ground and bleeding heavily.

Bryan was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to Phoenix Police Detective Luis A. Samudio.

Neighbors reportedly told police that the brothers fight in their apartment regularly after drinking alcohol.

According to court records, police found blood-stained garden shears and a kitchen knife inside the apartment. They found no broken mirror or broken glass.

Police say Christian also had injuries, including a bloody nose and multiple bruises. He admitted to drinking at least five beers that night.

He is being held on a $750,000 cash bond on a charge of second-degree murder.
