Authorities say a California man who was caught speeding on Interstate 10 was also allegedly transporting $40,000 in drug money.
Tempe police report that on August 11 a speeding vehicle was stopped on I-10 near Litchfield Road. The same car, police say, was involved in the pickup and transportation of drug money.
Undercover officers allegedly watched as 31-year-old Edgar Joaquin Calderon picked up "seven large bundles" of money in the parking lot of a business near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.
At the traffic stop, Calderon denied having any drugs or cash with him, but a police canine alerted officers to money being in the car. Police say they found about $40,000 in cash in the car.
Calderon has been charged with conspiracy and money laundering.
