An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper has been charged with assaulting a Chandler Police Department officer after a domestic dispute.

Court documents show that on April 25, Chandler police received a call saying 44-year-old John Michael Bugenig was being verbally abusive toward his ex-wife.

The victim reported to police that she picked up Bugenig at a restaurant after he requested that she take him to his house because he was intoxicated.

On the way to his home, the victim says Bugenig became verbally aggressive toward her and took her cell phone after she tried to record the abuse.

Police say while talking with the victim, Bugenig allegedly walked up and threw the victim’s cell phone into her car and walked away.

When he was commanded by the officer to stop, Bugenig allegedly yelled at him, pulled away and then shoved the officer. After a short scuffle, Bugenig was taken into custody.

Police say Bugenig received a cut to his eye and forehead.

Bugenig has been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
