The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says on April 7 they were contacted by an officer at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Phoenix about a victim who had been dropped off with severe injuries — including cuts and broken bones.

A witness identified the suspect as 46-year-old Antonio Phillips.

The victim reportedly told the witness that Phillips assaulted him with a shovel at his home in Gila Bend.

Phillips then allegedly drove the victim to the VA Hospital in Phoenix, where he dropped him off at the emergency room.

Phillips reportedly told the witness he was heading out of state.

MCSO deputies located Phillips in the victim’s SUV in Gila Bend where he was arrested.

Phillips has been charged with aggravated assault.
