CHANDLER — A Chandler woman has been sentenced to 10 years of probation after being found guilty of having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy.
Serena Ann Marin, 34, pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse and was sentenced to 10 years probation, according to court records.
Marin will have the opportunity to have the conviction reduced to a misdemeanor if she completes all her probation conditions. According to court documents, Marin “shall not register as a sex offender.”
On October 27, 2017, Chandler police arrested Marin for sexual contact with a minor, who was the son of a family friend.
The victim’s mother reportedly became concerned when she noticed Marin becoming flirtatious with her son.
When the victim's mother checked her son's cell phone, she saw "suspicious text messages" between the two.
The victim told police that over "the past year or so," Marin was becoming more playful with teen. She also allegedly started sending him sexually explicit messages and photos, requesting he do the same.
In late September 2017, the victim’s family went to Marin's home near Rural Road and Chandler Boulevard for a pool party. Court records note Marin sexually touched the victim several times in her home.
In a phone call with the victim’s mother, Marin admitted to her actions, saying, "she felt bad about what happened."
Marin's probation is scheduled to end in June 2028.
