Chandler PD: Man jumps out of window to escape girlfriend's jealous ex

A man jumped out of the window of a Chandler home, landing on a cactus to escape his girlfriend’s jealous ex-boyfriend.

Chandler police report that on August 4 a woman and her boyfriend were showering, when her ex-boyfriend saw them through a backyard window and said, "I have something for that."

The couple got out of the shower as the suspect, 34-year-old Jay Edwards Fields, grabbed a handgun and entered the home.

Fields allegedly assaulted the woman as she stood between the two men. Her boyfriend grabbed some knives and barricaded himself in a bedroom. Fields then broke through the door causing the boyfriend to jump out the window onto a cactus.

He managed to run away while Fields left in his car. Police caught him at a traffic stop near Warner and Dobson roads, about a mile away. He reportedly told police that, “He let his feelings get in the way of his actions.”

Fields has been charged with burglary and aggravated assault.
