Southwest Airlines Co. could furlough hundreds of employees in January.
Dallas-based Southwest sent notices to 403 employees and an additional 1,503 employees represented by the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association who "could be impacted once those furloughed exercise their seniority to fill other bid positions received a notice of potential impact," the company said in a statement.
Southwest sent the notices as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
Just because a company issues WARN Act notices doesn't mean furloughs are guaranteed or every employee who receives a notice will be furloughed.
