The city of Phoenix has called upon Local First Arizona, a nonprofit organization that promotes small business, to organize a push to provide healthy, sustainable meals to people in need during the pandemic.

The new program, called the Feed Phoenix Initiative, will give local food producers and meal preparers an opportunity to earn money by providing food to families impacted by Covid-19 and resulting hardships.

Participating businesses will be reimbursed for each lunch meal they make, and they’re expected to produce at least 500 each week for six weeks.

Additionally, these meals must contain locally sourced ingredients and be delivered in compostable containers.
