Macy’s Inc. has confirmed it will shutter its customer contact center in Tempe and merge that work into other call centers in Mason, Ohio, and Clearwater, Florida, as the national retailer looks to curb expenses.

Closing the call center at 1345 S. 52nd St. will affect roughly 843 employees, according to public records.

The call center closure was listed in a regulatory filing and statement posted on the company's website on Tuesday, in which Cincinnati, Ohio-based Macy's unveiled a three-year plan to cut costs, also saying it would would close approximately 125 of its least productive stores across the country.

Macy's officials have not yet returned calls from the Phoenix Business Journal seeking details on when the Tempe call center would close.
