For the second straight fiscal year, the Arizona Lottery has seen record-breaking numbers, this time in both sales and payouts.

Unaudited sales numbers for fiscal year 2020, combining sales from instant-win and draw games, brought in more than $1.09 billion, lottery officials said.

At the same time, the lottery paid out more than $1 billion during the fiscal year, including backing the Arizona Commerce Authority, fueled by a $414 million Mega Millions award from a ticket sold in Glendale in June. It was the first time Arizona lottery prize payouts exceeded the $1 billion mark.

“The Arizona Lottery, and our entire network of valued retailers, are proud to help provide the resources needed by everyone on the frontlines battling this pandemic to keep us all healthy, and to assist businesses across Arizona weather this economic storm and even grow during these troubled times,” Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar said in a statement. “Arizona Lottery ticket sales are directly responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars every year to fund these programs that are providing critical services to our most at-risk citizens and helping to grow our economy.”
