PHOENIX — A surprising restaurant empire sale, a huge investment by a West Coast tech giant and a move by one of the world's biggest apparel maker to set up shop in the West Valley were among the most-read online Phoenix Business Journal stories in 2019.

In a year that the Valley's super-charged economy continued to fire on all cylinders, California businesses and residents continued to trek eastward to settle in the region and a pair of automotive manufacturers were getting started on huge production facilities in Pinal County, Business Journal reporters were on the front lines, bringing stories that matter the most to readers.

So here is a quick rundown of the 10 most popular PBJ stories of the year, based on online reader visits, in reverse order, including date of publication.

No. 10: Here are Arizona's Top 50 high schools ranked by SAT score (Oct. 16) - Once again, charter schools dominated the list of Arizona's top public high schools as ranked by average SAT scores. One charter school network — Basis Charter Schools — took eight of the top 10 spots on this year's Business Journal ranking based on 2017 SAT scores, the newest data available from the Arizona Department of Education.
