Is it too early to talk about holiday movies? Never! And in a few weeks, you’ll be able to watch the first of three new original festive Netflix releases.
On Oct. 28, the streaming service will release “The Holidate,” starring Emma Roberts (“Scream Queens”) and Luke Bracey (“Hacksaw Ridge”). Roberts plays Sloane, who meets Bracey’s character, Jackson, on Christmas.
The two have one big thing in common: They’re both sick of being asked about their single status during cuffing season. So, they make a pact to be each other’s “holidate” for every celebration throughout the next year, according to the movie’s official trailer, which you can view in this tweet from Netflix:

Also on the way is Dolly Parton’s musical movie “Christmas on the Square,” starring Christine Baranski, Jenifer Lewis and, of course, Parton herself. Parton plays an actual angel, per the official synopsis (as reported by NME): “Regina Fuller (Baranski), a wealthy and unpleasant woman, returns to her small hometown in the wake of her father’s death to evict everyone right before the holiday season. Following an encounter with an angel (Parton), a rekindling of an old romance and stories from the local community, she has a change of heart.”
The movie poster alone — as posted to Twitter on Sept. 29 — is already serving up some major holiday vibes:

The movie will be available Nov. 22, but if you can’t wait that long, you can listen to “Christmas on the Square,” from Parton’s forthcoming album, “A Holly Dolly Christmas” (her first Christmas album in 30 years).
Another feel-good holiday movie-musical on the way is “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey,” directed and written by playwright and director David E. Talbert. The film tells the story of an eccentric inventor, Jeronicus Jangle (Forest Whitaker), and his granddaughter, Journey (newcomer Madalen Mills).
The cast also includes Keegan-Michael Key, Anika Noni Rose and Justin Cornwell, and features music written by John Legend. The promise of a diverse cast makes this holiday film all the more appealing.
Check out the vibrant, magical-looking images from the film in this tweet from Netflix:

“For me as a father of a little Black boy and an uncle of a little Black girl, it’s important for me to put images of wonder and magic that are universal out in the universe,” Talbert told EW.
“Because if we never see it, then how do we know we can be it?”
