More than 500 local Intel workers will get their pink slips this week, giving them a month to figure out what to do next.

Workers found out that 248 employees from its Dobson Road location and 312 from the Chandler Blvd. facility will be laid off.

The chipmaker's CEO announced last month the company is cutting 12,000 workers globally. Intel reported lower-than-expected sales for the first quarter of 2016.

The company makes PC chips and is trying to expand into other types of computing.

In a written letter dated April 25 and addressed to the state, Chandler, and Maricopa County, the company said affected employees will find out this week and be terminated May 31.
