In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, Fountain Hills held it’s annual Irish festival.

The city, known for it’s famous fountain, decided to put a twist on the standard color.

Reaching heights up to 60 feet, green-colored water began to shoot out of the fountain in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

Vistors were delighted by the festive change and captured the moment on social media.

Other festival activites inlcuded celetic rock bands, bagpipes and Irish fold dance performance.

In other parts of country, major cities followed the same trend. Most notably in the city of Chicago, where they annually dye the river completely green to celebrate the Irish holiday.

People were in awe of how green the Chicago river managed to get.

Other landmarks around the world got in on the fun and followed the green trend. The trend gained so much traction that even on Twitter the hashtag #GlobalGreening started trending.
