Through the low notes and the high notes, one person has been here to help these students re-write the symphonies of their lives.

"Music is a tool," explains Jennifer Crews. "But music is also beautiful and it's a wonderful language and it helps you see the world in a vastly different way."

Crews is the founder of Desert Sounds, a non-profit that gives Valley kids access to the arts. Since it was created in 2008, Desert Sounds has introduced thousands of Arizona kids to music.

"I see kids come here that are shy, that are quiet and afraid of their own shadows and they can't look you in the eye," Crews said.

"She's so compassionate about what she's doing," explains Shelley Watson. "And the kids look up to her and they wouldn't be where they are without her."

And Jennifer Crews, that's why you're one of Nick's Heroes! For more information, head to https://desertsounds.org/author/desertsounds/

All around us in the Valley, people go above and beyond to help make our community even better. We want to know who they are! Nominate someone today and tell us why they should be one of Nick's Heroes. They could win a $500 gift card from our friends at Valley Toyota Dealers.
