The Arizona Cardinals are working to trim their roster down to 53 players, and the first big name cut has come Friday afternoon.

The team has reportedly cut ties with running back Chris Johnson.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news.

The NFL veteran played two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals but appeared in just 15 games because of injuries. In his two seasons with the team, Johnson rushed for 909 yards and four touchdowns.

The move shouldn't come as a surprise for those watching the Cardinals roster closely. Johnson fumbled twice in the preseason game against Atlanta and did not play in the game this week against Denver.

Johnson has played in three Pro Bowls in his career, including a 2,000 yard rushing season with the Tennessee Titans in 2009, but will now hope to get picked up by another team as regular season rosters are finalized.
