A Goodyear mom is thankful for the police officers who convinced her son to use a helmet when he is on his bicycle.

Kyle Snyder didn't want to wear one.

"I thought I was safe."

But Goodyear police officers at the boy's school gave him a helmet. They were participating in the program "Lids on Kids" and the timing couldn't be more perfect.

"The day I got my helmet, I was on my bike," Kyle said. "I was going really fast and I had to stop because kids were in front of me, I fell off my bike, when I hit the ground my helmet cracked."

He says if it wasn't for the officers who gave him the helmet, he knows he would have been hurt.

Lids on Kids is a program that has been around for four years. Officer go to schools and hand out helmets to children who aren't wearing one.

Kyle says he listened to the officers because he wants to be a police officer when he grows up.
