Mesa Police officials say a burglary suspect and an officer suffered bite injuries from a police K-9 after an incident early Friday morning.

Police say officers responded to a burglary call at a commercial property near Sossaman and Pecos roads around 1:30 a.m. Friday. The suspect vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene, so a police helicopter followed the vehicle.

The driver failed to yield to a traffic stop attempt and continued driving to the area of 48th Street and Cheyenne in Phoenix where the suspect fled the car on foot.

Officers searched the area for the suspect and a Mesa K-9 detained the suspect. The suspect, along with an officer, suffered bite injuries from the K-9.

Police say both injuries don't appear to be serious, however, both suspect and officer were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say the suspect appears to be facing charges of attempted burglary, multiple warrants and other charges related to driving.
