Chandler firefighters say more than a dozen dogs were inside a home when it sparked fire on Friday evening.

According to a Chandler fire spokesperson, reports came in around 6:45 about a first-alarm fire near Alma School and West Warner roads.

Once fire crews arrived on scene, they discovered there were 14 dogs inside the home, officials said.

So far 11 dogs have been rescued and at least eight are being placed in an animal shelter. The homeowner tells ABC15 that six of the dogs are his.

Chandler fire officials said one of the dogs was unaccounted for as it was believed to have run away from the house at the time of the blaze.

According to authorities three dogs died in the blaze.
