Phoenix Police say a 41-year-old Phoenix resident who shot at a suspected burglar was booked into jail Saturday.

Pedro Sales reportedly saw a 28-year-old woman, who has yet to be identified, taking items from his commercial work vehicle around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police say Sales fired warning shots in the air to scare her off, and continued to fire at her after following her in his vehicle. The suspect was shot at least one time.

Sales reportedly got his stolen property back and returned home to alert officers. They then responded to the area of 51st Avenue and McDowell Road.

A neighbor said he heard gunshots and someone screaming, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” He said he thought it was a young child yelling at first, but it was actually a woman who was hiding.

Sales was booked into jail on a weapon violation and aggravated assault after police say he exceeded what would be considered defense of premise and property.

The burglary suspect has not yet been booked for charges. She suffered non-life threatening injuries from the gunshot wound.
