The injury of a child while the child was at home is being investigated by the Phoenix Police Department.

According to police, a child was injured at an apartment complex near 44th Street and Baseline Road on January 28 around 5:45 p.m.

The child, who was described as a "small child" by police, was taken to a hospital because of the injury on Thursday. The child, as of Friday, remains in extremely critical condition.

Detectives with the Phoenix Police Department's Crimes Against Children Unit is looking into the case.

Authorities say the father told officers he had a "medical episode'" and took the baby down with him.

Sergeant Vince Lewis with Phoenix police said a doctor will determine whether the injury the child sustained, which are unknown at this time, is "at least plausible."

Lewis said if the child's condition changes, the investigation's nature will also change, but for now they are investigating the incident as an injured person case.

No other information is available at this time.
