The Arizona Department of Public Safety says troopers pursued a vehicle north on Interstate 17 Friday night.

Video from Air15 showed several DPS cruisers surrounding a vehicle near the Thunderbird exit.

A witness told ABC15 he saw someone running south along the interstate, being chased by DPS troopers. The suspect hopped over the median and continued running.

A trooper giving chase jumped into the bed of the witness' truck and told him to follow the suspect. After driving to catch up, the trooper got out of the truck and was able to tackle the suspect.

The witness also said the suspect had a dog with him which he threw. Authorities did not detail what happened to the animal.

The law enforcement activity caused I-17 northbound to be closed for about 10 minutes, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Authorities said the incident remained under investigation. It was not immediately clear if the suspect would face formal charges.
